The main image of the tree waxes and wanes like the moon.
It breathes life. It breathes energy.

This visual project is about re-imagining the Lords Prayer as a conversation with nature / Mother Earth / Gaia. I wanted to believe trees are rooted to all consciousness via common mycorrhizal networks. I wanted the video to breathe, like a tree’s breath. I wanted to see the black circle as a portal to transcendence. I wanted to imagine the video as a ritual / incantation / spell.

The official video for Mediæval Bæbes track Rosario, taken from their new album Prayers of the Rosary.

I felt the song needed a brooding, intense visual experiment, but felt it was really important to collaborate with the music on an emotional level.

I wanted to create something mediative, and reflective, as if this visual would be part of a prayer/ ceremony.
I saw the link between ritual and prayer and transcendental experiences - sometimes enhanced with mind-altering substances, natural or not… 🙂

So.. turn off your phone, draw the curtains, and absorb the absolution.
Best watched on a large screen and/or in landscape orientation.

4_TREASONS evolved from my experience of the lengthy UK Covid lockdown. Wondering thro the local Walthamstow(London) urban marshes, I had a sense of dislocation & isolation from the outside world. Here i was in a city of 9,304,000, but walking solitary and removed from society, stuck in a small strangely rural corner of the city. I started to imagine a parallel world where the marshes were the meeting point for hidden forces, reacting sometimes violently, sometimes calmly, but insidiously infecting the environment metre by metre. I saw this as a sense that the city is slowly encroaching the micro rural marshlands, but also a psychological reaction to my processing of the Covid virus, and how it has permeated my personal world and others close to me.

“One of the many things that Euclid, the 4th century BC Greek mathematician and the Father of Geometry, left us is the first algorithm: a method to compute the greatest common divisor between 2 given integers. The algorithm is used in particle physics and computer science, but in 2005 Canadian mathematician Godfried Toussaint noticed something extraordinary when he applied it to musical rhythm. Using the algorithm to distribute beats and silences as evenly as possible in a bar generates almost all of the most important world music rhythms, from Sub-Saharan African music in particular. For example, if you have a bar with 8 pulses and you want to have 5 beats in that bar, the way the algorithm places the beats gives us the Cuban “Cinquillo" rhythm, which has its roots in West African music.:
